Network license
The Zoo License Manager is used to distribute network licenses on the local network.
Installing and configuring Zoo
Download and install Zoo on the server. Make sure that TCP port 80 is open. Launch the ZooAdmin utility and add the Rhino license.
Connecting to Zoo Server
Select Use Zoo when installing Rhino, then specify the name of your Zoo server.
If the application was previously installed with a local key, you need to change the authorization method.
Start Rhino, select the menu item Tools → Options → Licenses. Select your Rhino license and click «Change license key». Close and restart Rhino. When starting the program, select «Use Zoo» button, then specify the name of your Zoo server.
Cloud License
Our recommended method is cloud-based licensing through a Rhino/Cloud Zoo account. This requires creating an online Rhino account and allows you to access Rhino 8 from any computer without entering a license key each time. You can also use Rhino for Windows and macOS on different computers without needing two separate licenses. The license key will be linked to your Rhino account just once. You don’t need to stay connected to the internet all the time – a weekly connection is enough. Additionally, you can create user groups to share a pool of commercial licenses with your team.
Single Computer - Offline Use
Prefer to install Rhino on a single workstation? During installation, click the gear icon on the first screen and select "This computer" to install the license for offline use.
Local Network License
The licensing method you select during the first installation can be changed later. For businesses with multiple users, Rhino offers network licensing, allowing access to a single license across multiple computers within your local network. Only one user can use the license at a time. Floating licenses can be managed using the free Zoo License Manager for Windows. Instructions and download links are available on the site.
You can also change your licensing method after installation if needed.
Rhino 8 offers new modeling tools such as ShrinkWrap, a significant speed increase for Mac users, SubD Creases, an improved PushPull working method, improved drawing tools, a highly customizable user interface, an accelerated rendering engine , new data types in Grasshopper and much more. Here are a few key innovations.
ShrinkWrap creates a sealed mesh around open or closed meshes, NURBS, SubD and point cloud geometries: ideal for creating meshes for 3D printing.
Rhino for Mac is faster than ever, runs the same on both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, and uses Apple Metal technology for display. With this release, the user interface on Mac is closer than ever to its Windows counterpart.
Anti-aliasing in SubD creates a feature between a smooth and a sharp edge without adding complexity to the SubD control mesh, great for creating chamfer-like features.
Rhino 8 opens up new modeling workflows like PushPull and adds intuitive new features to Gumball, automatic control planes, and more.
Rhino 8 introduces several trimming and splitting enhancements to support a variety of drafting and fabrication workflows.
Rhino 8 has an updated Cycles render engine, improved UV processing, improved procedural textures, a new display mode, and much more.
Rhino data types allow you to create geometry with custom attributes, import additional file formats, manage blocks, use native materials in the graphics pipeline, create hatches and annotations, and many other advanced workflows.
Rhino 8 introduces a new code editor, support for CPython and .NET 7, significant improvements to our free SDKs, API refinements, and several major new features that broaden and deepen the foundations of the geometry development platform.
The new version contains new linetypes, improved Boolean operations for meshes, improved surface editing tools, and much more.
Check out the “What’s New in Rhino 8” documentation for a complete list and new command options.
